Lent 2021

Lent Daily Devotions

Each day throughout Lent, David will be sharing a short devotion. Watch every day, or just dip in when you're able.

Here's the most recent devotion:

If you'd like to catch up with devotions from previous days, they're all available here on the Rugby Baptist Church YouTube Channel.

Please get in touch with David if you'd like to talk about anything that these devotions bring to mind.

Rugby Baptist Church Lent Challenge

Over the past year we've become used to seeing hand sanitiser gel everywhere, and have been encouraged to wash our hands frequently, but imagine how difficult life would be if we didn't have access to running water, or even a safe place to go to the toilet. Sadly, 2 billion people in the world have exactly that problem.

Our Lent Challenge is to notice when we are using water, and we're going to be raising funds for Toilet Twinning at the same time via a Just Giving Page we've set up for this purpose.

The idea of the challenge is to focus our minds on just how much we take water for granted, and as we do so to thank God for the blessings we enjoy.

The challenge is open to anyone who would like to join in.

  • Week 1: 21st - 27th Feb: This week's challenge was to notice every time we wash our hands. Some of us have been surprised at just how often we do wash our hands in a day!

  • Week 2: 28th Feb - 6th March: This week's challenge was to notice every time we wash fruit or veg before eating it. It's just one of the ways we use water on a daily basis to keep ourselves healthy and well, and mostly we barely notice we're doing so.

  • Week 3: 7th - 13th March: This week's challenge was to notice every time we flush the toilet. Amazing to think that in 2020, 673 million people had nowhere but somewhere outside to go to the toilet, but the good news is that this figure is reducing year on year because of work towards the Sustainable Development Goal to completely end open defecation.

  • Week 4: 14th - 20th March. This week's challenge was to notice every time we wash up, or use a dishwasher. It might feel like too much! But the reality is that keeping cooking utensils clean and hygienic is straightforward for most of us, and one of those everyday blessings we sometimes take for granted.

  • Week 5: 21st - 27th March. This week's challenge was to notice every time we use clean water to take a shower or bath. Perhaps we wouldn't have quite so many if we had to carry the water from a source a kilometer or more away!

  • Week 6: 28th March - 4th April. The challenge for the final week in Lent is to notice every time we use clean water to wash clothes, and each time to put aside a few pence (or more, YOU decide what is appropriate for you). We have a Week 6 Record Sheet you could use to help you keep track.

Please make any donations via our Just Giving Page by Sunday 11th April. Many thanks to those who have already done so, and to those who have decided to twin their own toilets. The great news is that Toilet Twinning are able to double our donations so every pound given will have double the impact! Click the link for more details.
